When people think of going back to the basics, this usually means a navy blazer, button down shirt, and khakis. Not a bad combination. If you want to stick to the classic look, why not make it a little out of the ordinary. The blazer can be a stand out item if it's constructed of a luxurious material, such as doeskin flannel. I, for one, am not a fan of the traditional hopsack blazer. The cloth just doesn't excite me. Yes, I like a substantial cloth, and I like to be excited by a nice cloth. You can also opt for a pair of cashmere/cotton trousers instead of the usual cotton. You are sure to stand out but people will not exactly know why, and that's a good thing.
Here is a doeskin flannel 3/2 undarted sack blazer from O' Connell's Clothing. It's the perfect fall and winter weight blazer, in my opinion. It is sure to make the standard blazer jealous.
